The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Rivers State has
called on the State, Government to re-constitute the Rivers State independent
Electoral Commission (RSIEC) before the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government
election in February 2013.

Chairman of the NNPP in Rivers State, Prince Princewill
Enyi, who stated this in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said the
appointment of Prof. Augustine I. Ahiauzu was not enough, saying that he needs
other commissioners to work with him in order to ensure free and fair local
Government elections.

According to him, “the commission should have six
commissioners as approved by the state House of Assembly”.

He continued that “the chairman, who was appointed early
this year by the Governor, can not alone conduct the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local
Government election in February 2013”.

The NNPP chairman also called on the Government to pay the
political parties that participated at the last local government elections
their grants, adding that the payment would enable the parties participate
effectively in future elections.

He used the opportunity to urge the government to fulfil its
promises for a unity government in the state.
