Mrs. Amaechi Seeks More Opportunities For Women

First Lady of Rivers State Dame Judith Amaechi has renewed
her advocacy calls for more opportunities for women in both elective and
appointive positions.

Dame Amaechi stated this on Thursday during the
commissioning of Obio/Akpor international market.

She stated that some local government authority have failed
to give more women opportunity to showcase their talents in their areas of
expertise.

Mrs. Amaechi who was emphatic in an appeal said of the 17
Councilors in Obio/Akpor Legislative Assembly, only one was allocated to a
woman and stated that such imbalance was unhealthy for democracy.

While commissioning a new crèche and nursery school within
the market, Governor Amaechi’s wife lauded the Obio/Akpor local government for
a bold initiative in the education sector.

She charged them to initiate a nursery education policy that
will drive the government investment in the education sector.

Chairman of the occasion Brr. Frank Owhor represented by
Senator John Mbata said the market initiative would drive rapid economic
fortune of the local people.

Earlier chairman of the council Prince Timothy Nsirim said
the first phase of the market which gulfed over two billion naira will address
the challenges of unemployment and boost the development of small and medium
scale enterprise.
