Man Bags Jail Term For Theft

A 22-year-old man, Musa Danladi, has been sentenced to one
ear and six months imprisonment for stealing twelve drilling iron pipes by a
Port Harcourt Magistrate Court.

The convict was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing
and conspiracy before magistrate Chituru Joy Oreh.

The prosecuting Police Officer, Sergeant Aaron Nsirem during
the prosecution told the court that the convict including three others now at
large on the 6th, August 2012 at No. 5 Oromenike Street, D/Line, Port Harcourt
Magisterial District conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit;
stealing.

The Police prosecutor further told the court that the
convict and other, now at large on the same date and place, in the aforesaid
magisterial District,  stole twelve
drilling iron pipes valued at nine hundred and ten thousand Naira (N910,000)
properties of Solibibo Horsfall and thereby committed and offence punishable
under section 516A (1) and 309 (9) of the criminal code, Cap 37 Vol. 11, laws
of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.

The convict, however, pleaded guilty on the two court charge
brought against him and pleaded for Mercy and added it was frustration that led
him to commit the crime.

The presiding magistrate, Chituru Joy Oreh convicted the
accused based on the confession and added that when accused person had pleaded
guilty to a charge the prosecution need not further prosecute the matter.

She sentenced the accused, Musa Danladi to one year and six
months in prison without an option of fine and directed that the prison terms
would run concurrently.
