LG Boss Tasks Mothers On Refuse Disposal
The Chairman, Transition Committee of Onitsha South Local
Government, Mr Ugochukwu Ezeani has advised mothers to educate their children
on ways to dispose refuse without littering the environment.
Ezeani gave the advice recently during visit to Mrs Margaret
Obi, the wife of Goveernor Peter Obi, and as the women gathered for their
annual August meeting.
‘’Mothers have to collaborate with the council to see that
it is clean and that there is no blockage of drains due to indiscriminate
dumping of refuse. “Blocking of drains might lead to flooding and loss of
valuables as well as human lives, especially that of our children,’’ he said.
Ezeani also advised the women to desist from sending their
children to hawk wares due to the hazards involved.
The council boss, however, commended the Federal Government
over the ongoing Sacamori Canal Dredging Project, as well as the completion of
the Onitsha River Port Project.
In her speech, Mrs Obi urged women to take responsibility
for the upbringing of their children and ensure that they were brought up with
the fear of God.
She said that the state government was intensifying efforts
to ensure affordable health-care and skill acquisition opportunities for women
to better their lives.
“You must create time to see that your child or children are
brought up with the fear of God and ensure that they are enrolled in school, as
well as monitor their progress in the school to make sure they are on the right
track.
“The state government would continue to assist women through
various healthcare and skill acquisition packages as well as ensuring the
protection of their privileges and rights as far as our culture is concerned,
’’ Obi said.
