A Niger Delta-based Non- Governmental Organisation, the
Development and Leadership Institute (DLI), has described the Late Ghanaian
President, Professor John Atta-Mills as a role model for Africa.

In a press release made available to The Tide in Port
Harcourt, the institute also said that Nigeria and the rest of Africa have a
lot to learn from Atta-Mills leadership qualities, especially his humility,
tolerance and selflessness.

The release signed by the Executive Director of the
institute, Oluwotosin Quadri also stressed the need for responsive and
responsible leadership among leaders in the country.

According to the release, “it is high time African leaders stopped
the lamentations of the continent through responsive and responsible
leadership, the looming darkness economic woes and persistent anarchy in the
continent must be averted by this generation of leaders in order to create a
future of hope and opportunities for the citizenry,” he said.

The institute stressed the need for emerging African leaders
to make conscious and concrete efforts to accommodate and manage the
continent’s social diversity with strength, stressing that Africa is presently
in need of selfless leaders with clear vision, coverage capacity and integrity.

The release further stated that, the sudden exit  of
Prof. Atta-Mills  has created a
leadership vacuum  in the continent.

“By his sudden exit, Africa has lost an emerging ICON, a
gem, great politician, true leader and accomplished professor of  law, we also appreciate the dignity,
reputation and respect he brought to Ghanaians across the globe as an African
nation where there is sanity, discipline, rule of law and zero tolerance for
corruption.

The release urged the people of Ghana to uphold the ideals
which the late president is known for.
