ICAN Canvasses More Training On Professional Accounting
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN),
has called for the training of secondary school students and civil servants in
Enugu State on professional accounting.
The President of the institute, Mr Adedoyin Owolabi, made
the call when he visited Governor Sullivan Chime at the Government House, in
Enugu.
Owolabi, who said that the training would ensure greater
productivity, added that the institute was ready to partner with the Enugu
State Government on the training.
“My visit to Enugu will afford me the opportunity to meet
and exchange ideas with stakeholders and users of accounting service in the
state. “The aim is to ascertain their peculiar needs and challenges in order to
find solutions to them. “It is strategic to invest in the future generation of
professionals by way of training. “This will be a befitting eternal legacy of
your government long after you may have left the scene,” he said.
Owolabi urged the government to sponsor young men and women
in the state’s civil service to revamp their career on professional accounting.
Chime commended the institute for the outstanding
performances of its members in the state’s civil service.
The governor, who was represented by the state’s Head of
Service, Mr Dennis Nze, lauded the institute for the effective capacity
building of its members.
“ICAN is not just a professional body that sits back and
waits for people to come and register. “We have seen the works of ICAN even in
Enugu State. Your people are doing perfectly well in our civil service and they
are making you proud,’’ the governor said.
Chime, however, promised more training for accountants in
the state’s civil service for better productivity.
