House Committee Explains Visit To LGAs
Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government
Affairs, has explained that its visit to local government councils in the state
was to ascertain the level of on-going projects and relationship between the
executive and legislative arms of the councils.
The chairman of the committee, Hon. Lucky Odili made the
clarification when the committee visited Abua/ Odual local government council
recently.
Hon. Odili noted that the chairman of Abua / Odual local
government council, Hon. Udi Odum was given an award of excellent performance in local government administration by the
Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) during his first tenure in
office and challenged him to demonstrate same in his second tenure.
He, however, expressed satisfaction over the vision and
determination of the present administration in the area to develop the local
government area.
The committee’s chairman spoke of the need for the executive
and legislative arm of the council to work in synergy in the task of delivering
the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.
Responding, the chairman of the council, Hon. Udi Udum
commended the committee for embarking on its over-sight function with a view to
checking the level of development and prudent management of available resources
in the local government councils in the state.
Also, speaking the leader of Abua / Odual Legislative
Assembly, Hion. Victory James and the Head of Personnel Management of the
council, Mr. Amadi Uchechi, described the relationship between the executive, Legislature
and staff of the council as cordial.
Members of the committee later inspected some projects
executed by the council chairman among which were completion of 45,000 litres
filling station and on-going construction of Abua ultra-modern market.
