Hoteliers Urge Better Power Supply

The South South Zonal Chapter of the Nigerian Hotel
Association (NHA) has called for more efforts by the government to improve
power supply in the country.

The zone’s Vice President, Mr Rex Yakpogoro who made the
call during the inauguration of the Rivers State Chapter of the Association
recently in Port Harcourt said that improvement in power supply will lead to
more investment in the country.

Mr Yakporogoro also lamented the incidence of multiple
levies being imposed by governments on businesses in the states stressing that
the situation was capable of scarring away investors.

He said that the association was seeking for ways to
dialogue with government on ways to check the incidence of multiple taxations.

The NHA vice president also stressed the need for hoteliers
to accord more priority to the training and retraining of their staff as that
would add value to their businesses.

He further stressed the need for establishment of department
of catering at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology and at the
University of Port Harcourt.

Also speaking, the president, Port Harcourt Chamber of
Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), Engr Vincent Furo, said
that the chamber will partner with the government to boost the hospitality
industry.

In his speech, the Rivers State chairman of the association,
Mr Eugene Nwanzi urged members to pay up their levies to enable the association
discharge its responsibilities.

He also called for the full support of members of the new
administration.
