The Head of the Civil Service in ImoState, Mr Evans Uzokwe,
has defended the state government for posting its employees to rural areas of
the state.

Uzokwe told the newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday that the
state government acted within the law in the postings.

He said the postings were done as part of the governor’s
plans to tap  the unexplored resources in
the rural communities.

“A civil servant is duty bound to support the policies of
the government postings are a natural part of being a civil servant, once you
are an employee, you can get posted anywhere,” he said.

Uzokwe said the postings were not done on secondment and as
such shouldn’t attract any extra remuneration.

Uzokwe also debunked the rumour of deduction of 10 per cent
of the salary of civil servants as education levy.

“The schools are for every child in the state. Most of the
children in these schools are not even children of civil servants. It will be
unfair to deduct 10 per cent of the salary of the civil servants,” he said.

The head of service called on the civil servants to embrace
the core principles of stewardship, trust, engagement and professionalism to
take the civil service to greater heights.
