Group Condemns Call For Reduction Of N’ Delta Funds

A socio-cultural organisation, Akwa/Cross, has condemned the call for the reduction of revenue allocation accruing to Niger Delta State by the Northern Governors’ forum.

President of the organisation which comprises Akwa Ibom and Cross River States’ indigenes in Rivers State, Comrade Emmanuel Inyang told The Tide in an interview in Port Harcourt,  that such misguided utterances were prompted by the greed for Niger Delta oil money.

Comrade Inyang said the Northern Governors Forum should be concerned with security challenges in the north rather than bickering over the revenue allocation formula.

According to him the Niger Delta region has paid a huge price in sustaining the nation’s economy and the north has been the major beneficiaries of oil politics.

On the call for power shift to the north, comrade Inyang described such clamour as a distraction saying that “Nigerians are not interested in party or which region is ruling but good and responsible leadership that will better the lot of all Nigerians.”

He blamed the high level of poverty in the country on bad governance stating that most elected representatives do not enjoy the support of the people they claim to represent, which makes the wealth of the country to be in few hands.

He called on the presidency to be proactive in the anti-corruption bid nothing that “sacred cow syndrome” had whittled down the fight against corruption in the country.

The group also commended the level of development recorded by the Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and Rivers State’ governors.
