FG, RSG To Partner On Rural Transformation
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rtimi Amaechi, says
it would partner with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in its
efforts at rural transformation through the deployment of science and
technology.
Governor Amaechi said this, last Friday when the Minister of
Science and Technology, Ita Ewa, visited him in Government House, Port
Harcourt.
Represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, Governor
Amaechi observed that this wasthe first time
the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology would be focusing on
using technology to impact local communities, commending the Minister for this
noble idea, pledging the support of his administration in the ministry’s drive
to transform the rural areas.
“We are happy for the innovation by the Ministry, I think
this is the first time a Ministry will be coming with such beautiful invention
that will see the development of our rural communities,” Governor Amaechi said.
Earlier, the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Ewa
said the Ministry was developing a World-based Oil and Gas Resources Project in
Bonny aimed at Building the capacity of the rural populace to utilise science
and technology to recreate their destinies, noting that “this is a paradigm
shift from foreign technology,” adding that Rivers and Bayelsa States would
serve as the pilot phase of the Ministry efforts and will in time include other
states.
According to Prof. Ewa, the focus of the innovation is to
advance the input of science and technology in areas of fishing, agriculture,
solar system and manpower for infrastructural development of local
manufacturers, adding that they had been to Otuoke and Odi in Bayelsa State to
discuss the modalities for the realisation of the Ministry’s goals.
