Enugu Police Nab Kidnap Kingpin

The anti-kidnap squad of the Enugu Police Command, has arrested a suspected kidnapper/killer, Emmanuel Okoro, popularly called AKA J-boy, a statement said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said that the suspect had been on the command’s wanted list since last year.

He was wanted over his suspected involvement in crimes such as car snatching, serial killings and kidnapping.

According to the  Police statement, security operatives  arrested the suspect who hails from Obeokwu Umunkiri in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, at Eleme Junction in Rivers State on August 3.

“Following his arrest, the suspect confessed to have participated in the kidnap of Prof. Ben Mbah, the Provost of the College of Education, Eha-Amufu, in Isiuzo Local Government of Enugu State, and the assassination of his police orderly on July 28, 2011”, the statement added.

It gave the name of the assassinated orderly as Corporal Ikpi Arikpo. The statement further said that the suspect admitted shooting the orderly because one of the gang members had said that the orderly would identify him.

It said that the suspect also confessed to  have participated in the robbery of First Bank, Eha-Amufu in 2011, when a bank manager and a security personnel were killed.

The statement said that the suspect was arrested with one of his gang members, Martins Okoye, who specialised in car snatching and stealing.

It further said that the suspect narrated how he shot and killed three policemen in Rivers State, adding that both men were now helping the police in their investigation.
