Dismissed Police Officer Faces Trial Over Girlfriend’s Murder

A dismissed police corporal, Ismaila Ibrahim from Kebbi State police command is to be arraigned before a Port Harcourt magistrate court soon for allegedly killing his girlfriend  while on a special duty in Rivers State in 2010.

The state commissioner of police, CP Mohammed Indabawa disclosed this while briefing the press in his office, Friday and added that all arrangement for the trial had been concluded.

The commissioner who paraded the suspect before journalists said the dismissed police corporal was serving in Kebbi State command but was sent on a special duty to the state.

According to him, the suspect was said to have murdered his girlfriend, one late Mercy Godwin at Afam in Oyigbo LGA in 2010 over a mis-understanding between them.

He disclosed that the suspect was declared wanted by the police authority and added that a ransom of N100,000 was offered to anybody who could give the police useful information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing police officer.

“The suspect was declared wanted by the police since 2010 in connection with the alleged murder: He has been arrested and now in our custody. He will be charged to court as soon as the father of the deceased arrived,” he added.

CP Indabawa further disclosed that the suspect was arrested in Sokoto State but was transferred to Kebbi State police command where he was serving before the incident occurred, and stated that the Kebbi State police had command sent him back to the state which had the jurisdiction to prosecute him as the said offence was committed within its jurisdiction.
