Court Strikes Out Case Against Lecturer
A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs.
Vaisy Wanjoku has dismissed a case of assault against Hon. Nkem Onyeche, a
lecturer at the Ignatius Ajuru University Rivers State.
Hon. Onyeche was dragged to the court by the publishers of
Moonlight newspaper for allegedly claim of stabbing one mbaise lady during
their days as post graduate students of the Rivers State university of science and technology (RSUST).
The Tide however learnt that the case was later abandoned by
the plaintiff.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Vaisy Wanjoku dismissed the
case over insufficient evidence by the plaintiff.
In his reaction counsel to Hon. Onyeche Barrister Oluo
Kelechi expressed joy over the ruling which he said had shown that his client
was innocent of the charges against her.
Meanwhile, Hon. Nkem Onyeche has threatened a N100 million
libel suit against the moonlight newspaper.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after the
judgement said that she was suing the newspaper for character assassination.
Hon. Onyeche said that, she is happy that she has been
vindicated from all the allegations against her, stressing that the situation
would also serve as a warning to those
who are in the habit of trumping up charges against innocent people in
the society.
