Court Arraigns Two Over ATM Cards Theft
Two men, who allegedly stole four ATM cards and used them to
withdraw some money, were on Thursday charged before a Surulere Magistrates’
Court, Lagos.
The accused — Ahmed Balogun, 27, and Ganiyu Rabiu, 30 — are
facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen goods.
Balogun resides at 37, Glover Street on Lagos Island, while
Rabiu lives at 7, Toluwalase Street, Oworoshoki.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ishola, told the court that the
accused stole a wallet containing four ATM cards of GTBank, Diamond Bank,
Zenith Bank, and Barclays Bank.
According to him, the first accused, Balogun, used one of
the cards to withdraw N101, 000 from an account belonging to Ogechi Onyemem.
Other items in the wallet are a driver’s licence and N10,
000, Ishola said.
He said the offences were committed at 5.45 p.m. at Shoprite
Shopping Mall, Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere.
“The complainant said she discovered the fraudulent
withdrawals when she was alerted by her bank,’’ he added.
Ishola said the second accused, Rabiu, received some stolen
items, including a BlackBerry mobile phone and N8, 000 cash.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285,
326 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate A. Tobi granted the accused bail without an
amount fixed to it, and two sureties each.
She adjourned the case to Sept. 20 for mention.
