Council Security Nabs Two Pirates, Four Cultists
A security outfit put in place by Nembe Local Government
Council of Bayelsa State code named “Operation Amiekuma’’, has started paying
off with the arrest of two pirates and four cult members who were alleged to be
among a deadly gangs that had been terrorising the communities within the area.
The security outfit was constituted by the Chairman of the
council, Waribogo Sylva, recent in response to rampant incidence of piracy and
cult activities in the local government.
A source close to the council said the suspects who had
earlier boasted of their invincibility were allegedly apprehended while
committing the crimes.
The source further said that those the suspects were
arrested in different local, the method of their arrest were the same as they
put on resistance but were over powered by members of the security outfit leading
to their torture before they were handed over to the police for interrogations
and investigations.
The Council’s security chairman, Chiefs\, Michael
Ogbotubo-Olokutu,said the arrests of the suspects would serve as a deterrent to
sea pirates and cultists operating in the communities scattered in the local
government.
Ogbotubo-Olokutu warned that no criminal would be spared by
the special security outfit to ensure law and order was maintained in the area.
In recent times, sea pirates have kept boat operators and
their passengers plying the water ways under panic ,following their attacks
,robbery and loss of lives of commuters along the water ways.
Pirates operations within the Nembe creeks are regular
occurrence as victims are always disposed of their property a situation that
made maritime workers lament severally on the attacks which they described as
worrisome.
Although a senior police officer at Nembe confirmed the
incident but when contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state,
Fidelis Odunna(DSP),said he was yet to briefed on the incident .
