A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers
State, Prince Tonye Princewill, has advocated
a Sovereign National Conference to ensure a prosperous  future and united Nigeria.

Princewill, who stated this on Tuesday in Port Harcourt,
noted that the conference was imperative to chart a new path for the country,
explaining that a round-table discussion was necessary in the wake of
insecurity in some parts of the country.

The former Action Congress (AC) leader in Rivers State sued
for peaceful co-existence and suggested that Nigerians should come together and
resolve whatever problems facing the country.

According to him, “there is a need for a national discourse,
where we can sit on a round-table and resolve our problems and create new path
for the nation”.

He advocated  a
national conference that would not have restrictions in areas of discourse to
strengthen the unity of the country.

“The majority will opt for one Nigeria that is based on
equity, fairness and justice, one Nigeria where the leader is transparent and
accountable”, he said.

Princewill, who was a member of the National Technical Committee
for Niger Delta, said “if we can provide that kind of a nation, then all parts
could stay as one, and continue to strive as Nigerians”, adding that “no area
should be restricted”.

He expressed regrets that the nation had for a long period
relied on trial and error, whichhe said had not helped the country.
