Bayelsa Gets Cancer Centre, Soon
Bayelsa State Government is to build a cancer centre at
Toru-Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
This is contained in a list of projects for execution by the
Ministry of Works and Infrastructures.
Mr Lawrence Erudjakpor, the commissioner for the ministry,
made the list available to The Tide on Monday in Yenagoa.
He said that in line with the promise made by the state
government to immortalise the late Major Isaac Boro, a viewing centre with a
museum, library and quarters would be built at Kaiama.
He added that a road project from Kaiama to Boro town in
Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area was also on, pointing out that key roads
and infrastructure projects were at various stages of completion.
The listed projects include Government House security gate,
a police post at the commissioners’ quarters, renovation of commissioners’
offices, as well as rehabilitation of bridges as some of the achievements
recorded by the ministry.
Erudjakpor said key projects such as the NYSC orientation
camp in Kaiama, the Toru-Ebeni Bridge and the Federal prisons at Okaka in
Yenagoa being undertaken by the state government were near completion.
He said that work on a number of road projects to open up
the state capital had started with clearing and sand filling as well as the
dualisation of the Opolo/Elebel, Azikoro, Isaac Boro and Road Safety, Diete-Spiff,
hospital roads, all in the state capital.
He commended Gov. Seriake Dickson for giving him the
opportunity to serve in his administration, adding that work on the new
secretariat annexes was in progress.
The renovation of the state’s old and new secretariat
complexes would commence soon while governor’s lodge projects at Nembe and
Sagbama and the deputy governor’s lodge in Yenagoa as well as Government House
car park and the Ekoli Bridge are among the projects.
