Archbishop Condemns Crime Rate In Imo
Archbishop Anthony Obinna of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese,
has condemned the high rate of kidnapping and assassinations in Imo State and
called for improved security.
Expressing regrets over the murder of former CBN Director,
Charles Nwosu, in Owerri, Obinna said the rate of violence and kidnapping was
worrisome, adding that it should be treated as a security concern.
The Archbishop urged security agencies in the state to
deploy more forces to contend with the increasing rate of crime and also arrest
the perpetrators.
Obinna said it was regrettable that perpetrators of the
crimes were being sponsored by prominent citizens and warned that those who
took to crimes would face the wrought of God, while enjoining the people to be
more security conscious.
The Archbishop urged the state government to focus more on
job creation to reduce “the army of the unemployed,’’ arguing that such would
be part of the solution to the problem.
According to him, unemployment is on the increase, so the
government should declare a state of emergency on unemployment among the youth.
He also tasked parents to always play the role of mentors to
their children, pointing out that carelessness on the part of parents had led
to some of the anti-social behaviours of the youth.
