APGA Crisis: Chieftain Foresees Better Days
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship
candidate in the 2011 general elections in Abia State, Chief Reagan Ufomba, has said that the party
would emerge stronger from its current leadership crisis.
Ufomba made this known in an interview with The Tide’s
source in Umuahia on Tuesday.
The Tide reports that members of the party were defecting
enmasse to other political parties.
“What is happening to our party is a good omen because
things must get worse before they get better, APGA must be run as a political
party and not a private company,” he said.
Ufomba appealed to members of the party not to be deterred
by the developments in the party, noting that APGA was being strengthened for
greater challenges.
He said that the party was poised to consolidate its claim
in the South east.
According to him, chieftains of the party which includes a
serving governor are already working round the clock to ensure victory for the
party in next elections.
Ufomba said that the defection of some APGA members in the
state to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) was not an end to the existence of
the party.
“Most people masquerading as APGA members are because they
found open spaces to contest elections in 2011 under the party’s platform.
“They have gone back to where they came from and this will
not be a problem to us because it only shows that they are not principled men,”
he said.
He said that the party was re-strategising to claim Abia
Government House come 2015.
“We appeal to residents of the state to keep fate with us
and not to be anxious with recent developments.’’
The Tide recalls that Chief Pedro Madukwe, an APGA
Senatorial aspirant in the 2011 National Assembly elections defected to the ACN
with his supporters.
