Amaechi Happy With Achievements On Education
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, says he wants to be remembered for the primary and secondary schools his administration is building in the state, but not for the monorail project which will be the first in Africa.
Amaechi who stated this last Friday in an interview programme on AIT “Kaakaki,” noted that he would also want to be remembered for the world class university his administration was planning to build and the constant and stable power supplies in the state. He said the power issue is important because it is one of the factors that encourages investment and promote economic growth.
According to him, “I would like to be remembered by many things, power, primary and secondary schools. This administration is building 64 new secondary schools and over 200 primary schools. I also want to be remembered for the world class university, but not the monorail even though it would be the first in Africa.”
“I would be sad if after my tenure ‘as Governor, these schools and other projects are in bad shape,” he said.
He dismissed rumours that he was working to become vice president, saying that nobody has planned to be president of Nigeria and succeeded.
According to him, “Nobody has planned to be president of Nigeria and hardly achieve it. The only two persons who have Govern the country preparing for it were Ibrahim Babangida and Gen Sani Abacha.”
“Tafawa Belewa did not prepare to be prime minister, Alhaji Shehu Shagari wanted to become senator, Obasanjo did not plan to be head of state, when he was made, in his second time, he never knew he would be president, he came out from prison and was made president, and our late president, Musa Yar’Adua wanted to go back to his teaching job when he was made the president,” he said.
Amaechi however, said Nigeria have learnt enough of democracy, adding that it is left on the people to decide to continue practicing democracy or to discontinue.
