Amaechi Explains Monorail Project
The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has reassured that the monorail project is not political but a project that will benefit the people economically.
Amaechi who gave the assurance last Friday in an interview programme on the African Independent Television (AIT), “Kaakaki” said the project is on course, stating that it is engineering at it best.
The Governor said his administration is transparent and sincere, explaining that if the Monorail is political, he would have ended it at the UTC junction.
According to him, it makes economic sense to extend the project to waterlines, because it will transport goods and human from one point to another.
He said the contractor was taking his time in executing the project stating that since it is engineering at its best, if any mistake is made, the project would not work.
Amaechi said the government have acquired all the equipment meant for the project, the coaches etc commending president Goodluck Jonathan for giving the state waver for the equipment.
He also described that the contractor was at the stage of building terminals and stations for the Monorail, stressing that there are three stations on the three kilo meter rail which would be completed in December next year.
According to the governor, the Terminals will be where the train would be maintained and said the whole financial involvement now to complete the first phase to UTC is about N7 billion.
