Amaechi Cup Enters Round Of 16

The ongoing street football competition among clubs within the Old Township and Borokiri axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State tagged Amaechi Cup has reached the knock-out stage of Round of 16.

After about two weeks of keen competition in the group stage, 16 teams have been eliminated, leaving another 16 to advance to the knockout stage.

In the final group matches decided at the weekend, Etche Street and Reclamation Road, Bende Street and Banham all ended their games goalless to qualify, while Eberi Street overcame Accra Street 4-1 and Okaki Street overwhelmed Harold Wilson 3-0.

Yesterday, Station Road hammered Isaka Street 4-0 while Nembe and Crowther Streets walked over Enugu and 1B Johnson Streets, respectively.

According to the organisers of the competition, the Round of 16 knock stage will commence today through Thursday with two matches played at 1.00pm and 3.00 pm, daily.

To battle for quarter final tickets today are Niger and Reclamation Streets in take their turn later.

Tomorrow, Adaka Boro Street and Potts Johnson will play the first match, while Creek Road and Ibeto Road clash in the first match, while Etche and Ndoni Streets the second game.

Wednesday and Thursday will be the turn of Sokoto versus Eberi streets, Accra versus Bende and Banham versus Nembe, Station Road versus Bende Street, respectively.
