Agip Commissions Projects In ONELGA

In fulfilment of its social corporate responsibility to host communities, the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), has commissioned development projects in four communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Area of Rivers State.

The projects include, extension of low voltage network and installation of street lights in Obiofu, hall at community secondary school, Obagi, Oschini/Freedom Street, drainage system in Omoku town and rehabilitated 25,000 gallons water scheme in Obrikom.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony last week, the NAOC General Manager, District, Giovanni Salvini represented by the Assistant Manager, Public Relations, Mik Solomon, said the commissioning of the respective projects is an indication of Agips honest intention to fulfill terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU’s) entered into with the communities, assuring that the company will not slack in its policy to better the lot of its host communities.

He urged the communities to maintain peace and the existing cordial relationship to enable oil exploration business to thrive, as well as attract more projects to the areas.

The Obiofu Community Development Committee (CDC) chairman, Onyesom Benard, commended Agip for their gesture, but argued that the issue of non-compliance with the review of the contract sharing agreement between Utuechi and Obiofu community in 2000, non-payment of compensation from the oil spillage at Umurou 4 areas in 2009 and non-inclusion of Obiofu community in the surveillance contract, should be urgently addressed.

In  Obagi, the principal, represented by the vice principal community secondary school, Obagi Nnamdi Zipi, said that the hall would serve the students as a centre for JAMB and WAEC examinations and appealed for chairs and desks in this regard, while the paramount ruler, Eze Clington Elemele gave Kudos to NAOC for carrying its host communities along.

The Secretary-General of Omoku Central Development Committee (OCDC) Chudi Samuel, thanked Agip for the road projects, noting that the community has for the past 50 years sustained cordial relationship with NAOC and urged them to double their efforts in siting more developmental projects in Omoku.

Representing the ONELEGA council boss, the council secretary, Clever Orukwowu, charged the youths to stop killing innocent people, rather in the area keep and maintain peace to enable the company site more projects in the community.

The paramount Ruler of Obrikom, Eze Christian Nkisah while thanking NAOC for the water scheme, urged the company to enter into a MoU with the community as well as distribute the water to the various households, while adding water treatment facilities to the tank.
