Academic Excellence: Faculty Partners Foreign Institutions

The Faculty of Dentistry, University of Nigeria Nsukka
(UNN), has entered into collaboration with the Georgia School of Health
Sciences, USA and the University of British Columbia, (UBC) in Canada.

The aim of the collaboration according to authorities of the
university, is to improve teaching and learning in the institution with a view
to placing it at par with its contemporaries globally.

In addition, the authorities of UNN, has equally restated
its commitment towards providing enabling environment for students to attain
their academic desires without any form of obstructions.

Declaring open the 2012 “Students’ Week” of the University
of Nigeria Dental Students’ Association, (UNDESA) at the Enugu Campus of the
institution last weekend, the Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Dr.( Mrs.) Oge Linda
Okoye, hinted that following the partnership with the foreign universities, the
Georgia School of

Health Sciences, has already donated to the faculty some
dental chair units and phantom head units which are being expected in the
country, soon while research collaboration between the two faculties is
ongoing.

Dr. Okoye, said in pursuit of academic excellence, the
administration had also attracted student exchange programme with the
University of British Columbia, UBC, in Canada, which is well equipped with
ultra- modern dental facilities and operates the problem-based learning system.

She also added that with the current arrangement, desiring
UNN dental students could now visit and spend one month of intensive training
in UBC in their final year, so as to avoid disruption of “our academic
curriculum”.

According to her, “it is worthy of note that the faculty is
preparing to receive officials of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria,
(MDCN) within this month, for accreditation of our clinical dental internship
programmes before the final examinations and graduation of our pioneer faculty
students.
