AAEUN Seeks New Salary Structure

A new Agriculture Salary structure (ASS) for agric workers
in the country may be underway, as the National leadership of the Agriculture
and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria (AAEUN) agitates for the upward review of
the old scale.

The National President of the Agriculture and Allied
Employees Union of Nigeria, Comrade Simon M. Anchaver revealed this during the
opening session of the Unions second quadrennial state delegate conference, on
Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

The president who was represented by the National Vice
President South-South, Patricia Bassey, said that in pursuit of the objective,
the Union will soon constitute a special Technical Committee to draft a memo
for submission to the appropriate organ of Government to Kick-start the review
process.

This is with a view to ameliorating the hazardous nature of
the work environment the agric workers experience in the course of discharging
their duties, he opined.

He noted that the central working committee of the Union has
approved that the Union applies for license from the federal ministry of
Agriculture to enable it be involved in fertilizer procurement  and distribution, saying that the state
councils will serve as outlets to ensure that the products reach the rural
farmers in the country at an affordable prices.

The Returning Officer, comrade Joseph Ndirang, said the
Union President has approved purchase vehicles for all the state councils in
the country, and has facilitated mass promotion for all the staff of the union.

While inaugurating the Rivers State Council’s new executive,
the Returning Officer, charged them to up hold the Unions Constitution and
defend the objective and missionof the Union, especially as it affects workers
welfare.

Those elected include, comrade Emecheta Chuku-state council
chairman, vice chairman Emmanuel Wali, Treasurer-Jenkins Potopregha, women
Coordinator-Doris Ogbologugo, Welfare Officer-Vivian Awoyesuku, Auditor –Osaro
Anya Jerry and Prince O. Nsirim as the Trustee.

In his post election speech the chairman, Comrade Emecheta
Chuku, who is also the current chairman of the Rivers State joint Negotiating
Council, and in his second tenure, assured to live up to the aspiration of the
unions constitution.

“I thank the members for voting us to serve them in the next
four years. We remain committed to serve you well and we will continue to fight
for the welfare and right of workers. We will consolidate on what we have
started, especially to reposition the union to clinch a position in the next
NLC, said election, also to conduct credible branch elections in the state.
