100 Children At PH Club’s Holiday Sports Programme

NO fewer than 100 children are participating in this year’s
edition of the Holiday Sports Training Programme organised by the Port Harcourt
Club which began last Monday.

The children who wore their sports wears trained at the
various sections of the club with their trainers from the Rivers State Sports
Council who took them on the basics of the sports.

Speaking with Sports journalists during the opening ceremony
the President of the club, Golden Tamuno said that the objective of organising
sports training programme for young talents was to help them excel in the
various sporting activities and assured of the club’s determination in
assisting the government catch them young.

Tamuno however called on parents to encourage their children
and wards on sports activities while urging the handlers to give them the best
in sports training.

Also speaking, the Co-ordinator of the programme, Mrs Judith
Assisi Obomanu, reiterated the need to give future sportsmen and women the
basics of the game, and assured that the catch them young programme would
achieve its set goals at the end of the exercise.

Some of the participants, Miss Sarina Aguma and Master Ibila
Peterside said their aim was to be future champions in tennis and golf,
respectively, adding that the training programme would ensure fitness physical
and mental alertness among the children.
