Union Seeks Quick Passage Of PIB
The chairman of National Association of Plant Operators (NAPO) Bonny Zone, Comrade Harold Benstowe, has called on the National Assembly to urgently Pass the Petroleum Industry Bill before it for the development of the country.
Comrade Benstowe made the call in Port Harcourt at the formal handing over of set of computers by the management of EVOMEC Global Services Limited to the union.
He said the passage of the bill would help to fast-track the economic development of the country.
Comrade Benstowe disclosed that the bill would also promote and empower the local content which according to him, would provide employment opportunities to the teeming unemployed youths across the country.
He said “when the indigenous contractors are empowered in terms of contract execution they will perform better than even their foreign counterparts.
He urged both the state and federal governments to always engage indigenous firms in project execution, stressing that most of these firms have proven track records and are better experienced in the areas of construction and engineering.
The union’s chairman commended the management of the company for its commitment and support to the union through the donation of the set of computers.
He said “such gesture would go a long way in enhancing conducive industrial labour relationship with the company.
The labour leader urged the company to maintain the tempo of the peaceful industrial relationship with the workers and the union as a foremost company that pays its workers the highest remuneration among other companies in the construction sector of the economy especially within the Niger Delta region.
Comrade Benstowe enjoined other companies operating in Bonny and indeed the country to be conscious of their corporate social responsibilities so as to promote industrial harmony within their host communities and areas of operations.
