Two Remanded For Assault
Two middle aged men have been remanded in prison custody for assaulting a female police officer while carrying out her lawful duties.
The accused persons, Joel Sunday, 25 and Anthony Ike, 38 are standing trial before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for assault and conspiracy on four count charges.
The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Wilson Isaiah told the court that the accused persons on July 18, 2012 at Market Junction Mile 4 Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt Magisterial District did unlawfully assault one female police officer, W/CPL Ifeyinwa Orwu while discharging her lawful duties.
The police prosecutor further informed the court that the accused persons on the same date and place at the afore said magisterial district did unlawfully conspire to assault the woman police by given her first blow over her body and stole a police beret valued at N1,500 only.
He further told the court that the accused person at No 9 Oroazi Road Mile 4 Port Harcourt did also assaulted one police constable Itatat Sigmound while exercising his lawful duties adding that the accused persons contravened section 356 (2) 351, 390 (9) and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 11 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 2004.
The presiding Chief Magistrate Ipalibo F. Iyiabo remanded the accused persons to prison custody and adjourned the case to August 15, 2012 for bail application.
