Tricycles, Taxis To Replace Okada In Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Government is to procure tricycles and taxis for use in the streets and roads of Yenagoa metropolis as it bans Okada operations in the state capital by the end of this month.

The State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson who disclosed this while briefing press at his 5th Transparency Initiative session, said the operation of Okada in the state capital has caused more harms than good, with resultant effect of increase in criminality and frequent accidents.

The Governor said allottees of the tricycles and taxies would be made to pay for them unlike in the past administrations when they were hijacked by politicians, and urged Okada riders to prepare their minds ahead of the ban.

He advised them to learn how to drive cars and tricycles to enable them fit into the new transport system.

The beneficiaries of the scheme, according to the governor would be registered and tested with the state Ministry of Transport before they will get their allocations.
