Show Gratitude To Rivers Govt …Amaechi Urges Civil Servants

Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, has called on civil servants in the state to reciprocate the various good gestures of the state government toward the service.

Governor Amaechi, who was represented at the opening of the 2012 Civil Service Week by the state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr Chukwuma Chienye, said the government has always taken  the welfare of the workers seriously.

Congratulating , the Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Mrs Esther Anucha and all the civil servants for the celebration of another Civil Service Week, he said no meaningful development would take place without a professional and properly motivated civil service and stressed the need for a virile, honest and well motivated civil service.

The governor described the theme of the celebration, ‘Capacity Development for the Implementation of the Transformation Agenda” as apt, as it is in line with programmes of his administration aimed at transforming the civil service to a world class status.

He enumerated some of the measures taken in repositioning the civil service which include the approval for the construction of a world class public service institute, provision of infrastructural facilities in the state secretariat complex, improved welfare packages, prompt payment of pensions and gratuities among others.

In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Sir Ngo Martyns-Yellowe, who is also the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, expressed the determination of the commission to make an impact in the state civil service, and enjoined workers to eschew acts that are inimical to the progress of the service.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Head of Service, Mrs Esther Anucha had said the annual celebration of the Civil Service Week had witnessed tremendous innovation that had impacted positively on the service delivery capacities of workers.
