RSG Set To Enforce New Tax Regime
Finally, the Rivers State Government, has commenced plans to introduce a one-stop-shop tax payment system in the state in order to eliminate multiple taxation on its citizenry and businesses.
The revelation was made by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Levi Gogo Charles during a media interactive forum organised in Port Harcourt last Tuesday.
Hon. Gogo Charles revealed that already,the ministry and its Finance counterpart have firmed plans to eliminate all forms of multiple taxation, pointing out that the new electronic tax payment will help drive the scheme.
He said,” the one-stop-shop payment of taxes will stop multiple taxation and allow citizens to access all the required forms and payment ‘’.
Once the scheme fully commences in the next few months, it will attract investors and encourage businesses to thrive.
The commissioner further explained that the state government was exploring measures to plug loopholes and evasion by individuals and companies.
He argued that the Amaechi led administration has so far demonstrated the zeal to make the state conducive through massive provision of roads, power and other infrastructure.
Apart from that, he stated that the government has introduced foreign scholarships aimed at empowering indigenes to fully participate in the oil sector, which he observed, is very technical in nature.
Gogo Charles remarked that,” the return of security in the state will raise and attract more investors’’.
The Budget and Planning Ministry helmsman submitted that the Niger Delta is full of potentials, adding that “if there is any part of the economy giving us what we are running on, it is the Niger Delta”.
