RPN Urges State Creation
The National Chair man, Republican Party of Nigeria (RPN), Alhaji Shittu Mohammed, said on Tuesday that the creation of more states would speed up development in the rural areas of the country.
Mohammed stated this while reacting to the debate on the review of the 1999 constitution in an interview with The Tide in Abuja said “state creation is the agitation of individuals, the reason for agitation is because there are no development in the rural areas. It will really help development in the area of infrastructure in most communities, especially those that have yet to be developed,’’ he said.
Mohammed, who added that the creation of such geo-political entity would also boost democracy and urged members of the committee to weigh the pros and cons of state creation before their recommendation.
“Creating more states is good, but look at the consequences of creating more states, but we believe that what Nigerians want should be given them is democracy ,’’he said.
Commenting on the agitation for the arrangement of geopolitical zones, in the constitution review, Mohammed said that the development would give Nigerians “a sense of belonging’’, if actualised.
“The problem is not the arrangement of these geo- political zones, but the removal of citizens and settlers.
“Immediately this clause is removed from the constitution, the issue of citizen-settler will naturally fade off,’’ he said.
