Rotary Vows To Achieve Peace Through Service
In line with its avowed commitment towards service to humanity, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt District 9140, has said that, its main goal this year was to make impact in peace through service by continuing its developmental and humanitarian efforts to the people of the state.
The newly inducted President of the club, Rotarian Henry A.M Sota who said this shortly after his induction weekend in Port Harcourt, said that, it was the intention of the club to organise peace/conflict resolution forum to foster peace building in communities in the state as well as conduct medical mission from India to Port Harcourt.
The club, he said would also embark on prostate, breast cancers and sickle cell awareness campaigns in the state, while the promotion of literacy would be given impetus.
Others include, provision of micro finance to empower low income business men and women, while the support for polio eradication will be sustained.
“As a service organisation, we provide a credible resource conduit for individuals and organisations that are desirous of doing good in the world and impacting positively on the lives of people in the society, but lack the time and platform to accomplish same”.
The Rotary president stressed the need for partnership with the club by members of the civil society to enable it accomplish its objectives.
The outgone president of the district, Rotarian Dominic Ifeanyi Okafor listed the achievements of the club in the last Rotary year to include; renewal of the micro credit scheme, provision of computer training of 22 youths as well as the organisation of quiz competition for four secondary schools.
The rest are: organisations of mental health seminar, and career talks as well as assistance to Trans/Amadi Divisional Police Station.
He thanked the members for their support throughout the Rotary year and urged them to extend same to the new president.
The occasion witnessed the induction of some honorary Rotarians.
