Princewill Wants Govt To Tackle Poverty
The Former leader of the Action Congress (AC) in Rivers State, Prince Tonye Princewill has urged the Federal and States Governments to be alive to their responsibilities and ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
Princewill who made the plea over weekend in Port Harcourt while commiserating with the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi on the sad and unfortunate incident at Okogbe, in Ahoada West Local government Area of last week tanker explosion where about 95 persons were reportedly killed while scooping fuel from a tanker, said he received the news with shock, disbelief, dependency and embarrassment that poverty could prompt people to scoop fuel from a fallen petroleum tanker knowing the inherent dangers associated with such practices.
He commended the State government emergency team led by the Governor who personally supervised the evacuation of the burnt bodies from the site of the inferno as well as providing ambulance to convey the severely burnt persons to the hospital for prompt medical attention, Commissioners of Local Government Affairs, Special Duties, other security agencies, fire service, voluntary organisations who assisted in bringing the raging fire under control.
The former Action Congress leader who is also the leader of The Princewill Political Associates (PPA), expressed displeasure about the deplorable state of the East-West Road which contributed to the accident and wondered why Niger Delta that produces the oil that is today the mainstay of the nation’s economy cannot boast of one single good road.
He appealed to the Federal Government to cushion the suffering of the people by seriously attending to the the East-West road which has become a death trap to users.
According to him, the early completion of the East West road will help save lives, adding that the deplorable condition of the road had become a national embarrassment.
