PDP Members Defect In Abia

Some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State have defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), citing lack of internal democracy in their former party.

The immediate past secretary of the party in the state, Chief Egwuatu Egbulefu, who led the cross over, said in Umuahia last Friday that their former party did not live up to their expectations.

“We have taken the bull by the horn by making public our decision to dump the PDP for lack of democratic principles. “As founding members of the PDP, we worked for her victory in 1999 with the assurances of democracy dividends by the party leadership,’’ he said.

Egbulefu said they were motivated to join the ACN as a result of the level of development in ACN-controlled states.

“We urge people of goodwill to support the ACN to entrench good governance in Abia at all levels in 2015,” he said.

Receiving them, Chief Abba Yaro, the Chairman of ACN in Abia, said the people of the state deserved more than they were getting.

He commended the new members for their determination to lead a process that would enthrone good governance in Abia.

“You have made the right decision by joining ACN and you need to initiate a process that will aid our party to take over Abia Government House in 2015,” Yaro said.

Also speaking on the occasion, Chief Uche Onyeaguocha, the ACN National Welfare Officer, berated insinuations that ACN was a sectional party.

Onyeaguocha acknowledged that the party had a big job to do if it must win Abia in 2015.

“Be ready to take over Abia for things to turn around for the state,” Onyeaguocha said.
