PCRC Members End Training In Rivers
No fewer than 706 members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State command completed 2nd batch general training of PCRC members, in Port Harcourt last Monday.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Indabawa described members of PCRC in the state as dependable partners in progress, saying that they are part of the police family.
Indeabawa described the PCRC in the state as a unique body that bridges the gap between the police and the public, and enjoined them not to relent in their efforts, stressing that security was every body’s business.
He charged them to always educate members of the public on the need to have the police as their friends and noted with delight the large number of participants.
The police commissioner appealed to the public to report any act of corruption or any officer that misbehaved to the appropriate guarters and assured that the command is poised to deal decisively with bad eggs in the force.
Mr Indabawa said he was very proud of them and assured them of their identify card soon.
Earlier, the state chairman of PCRC, Hon Austen Yong said the training had further highlightened their functions and the need to partner with the police.
Yong said the training would be organised annually while advising those that could not attend to avail themselves of the opportunity in September, this year.
He called on Divisional Police Officers (DPO’s), and Area Command chairman to encourage police community forum in their areas to enlighten the public on the need for synergy between the police and the communities and lauded the divisions that had already held such fora.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command Mr Ben Oguegbulam thanked the commissioner for the encouragement and also thanked members of PCRC for the orientation programme.
He enjoined them to put into practice what they have learnt for the public to understand, adding, “it is quite difficult for two to work together except they understand themselves better”.
