NNPP Urges Equal Funding Of Parties

Peoples Party (NNPP), in Rivers State has called on the Federal Government to finance political parties equitably.

The chairman of the party in the State, Prince Princewill Enyi who gave the adevice in an interview with The Tide  said that political parties in the country should be equitably funded.

Prince Enyi decried a situation where a party in power has unlimited access to state treasury and dening others of the same  privileges.

The party’s boss who also condemned plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister some political parties, explained that  parties should be allowed to evolve with time.

He noted that Nigeria currently had less than to political parties while republic of Benin has more than 30 and the United States of America has 100.

According to him, any move to deregister political parties in the country, was an attempt to kill democracy in the country.

Prince Enyi,  however supported the move to amend the Constitution, adding that the step would lead to better governance in the country.
