NFA Canvasses Support For Falcons
The Marketing Director, Idris Adama, Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Idris Adama has solicited the support of the Ministry of Women Affairs for the Super Falcons’ campaign in the 2012 African Women’s Championship.
In an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Monday, Adama said that it was essential for the ministry to identify with the female national teams.
He said that fresh moves had been initiated by the association to establish a collaboration after previous attempts failed due to the removal of a former minister, Mrs Josphine Anenih.
“We will continue to mount pressure until they yield to our request.
“We wrote to the former Minister of Women Affairs but we never got any response and now we are following it up with the new minister to make it part of their project,’’ he said.
“Where is the gender sensitivity in the sponsorship of the female national teams,” Adama asked.
He noted that the Super Falcons had won the African Women Championships (AWC) seven consecutive times and “they are gunning for the 8th title”.
“Out of the seven championships, they lost just one. All the female teams have qualified for every FIFA competition, so why won’t they be identified with,” he asked.
Adama expressed regret at the lack of support for the teams by female captains of industry, in spite of their achievements.
He said the Women for Change Initiative would not be complete “if the Ministry of Women Affairs keeps excluding the female national teams from its programmes”.
Adama noted that the female teams could be used by any female entrepreneur to launch herself into the mainstream of sports development.
