Man In Court Over Alleged Rape

A 35-years old man, has been arraigned before a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court for alleged rape.

The accused person, Ibiokun Yaka, 38 is standing trial on a two count charge of rape and carnal knowledge before Chief Magistrate E.C. Woke.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam told the court that the accused person Ibiokun Yaka, on the June 30, 2012 at Urualla Water front, Diobu in Port Harcourt City Council within the jurisdiction of the court did conspire with others now at large to commit a felony to wit: rape.

The police prosecutor also told the court that the accused persons on the same date and place in the afore said magisterial district did have unlawful carnal knowledge of one Blessing Emesie aged 17 years without her consent.

He averred that the accused committed an offence punishable under section 516 A (a) and section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. II Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria.

The accused person did not take a plea on the charges brought against him.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, E.C. Woke while remanding the accused person in prison custody ordered that the case file be forwarded to the DPP for legal advice.

He however, told the accused person that he was at liberty to approach an High Court for his bail and later adjourned the matter to August 27, 2012 for further hearing.
