LG Chairman Rules Out 2nd Term Bid

The Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State, Barrister, Reginald Ukwuoma, says he has not declared any intention to run for second tenure in office as been speculated in the area.

Ukwuoma disclosed this in an interview with The Tide in his office at Okehi Thursday, described such imaginations as political recklessness and dis-service to the people.

The chairman disclosed that his primary focus at hand is how to transform the area and bring democratic dividends to the people for which he was elected, adding that his administration is committed to transforming the area for the betterment of all.

According to him, when an administration is doing well there is tendencies that people would come up with many names and propaganda in other to rubbish such leadership.

“I have no imaginations or proposal for second tenure ambition for now.  In the first place, it was God who through Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the People of Etche made me chairman of the area”.

“The same God is still alive and He holds the next plan for me. It will be a share of madness, ingratitude and prejudging God for me to think of second tenure now.  I see it as political recklessness as such thought would make me loose focus”, he stated.

He declared that his immediate concern is how to effectively deliver the mandate given to him by the people of Etche and not to begin to talk of 2014.

Speaking on the success of his administration within one year in office, Ukwuoma disclosed that his administration has built and completed 72 market stores, with 6 rooms toilets, land concrete elevation and water borehole at Akwa community in the area.

The Elga boss further disclosed that his administration within the period under review had procured ten mass buses transit to reduced the cost of transport difficulties been suffered by the people as well as procure official cars for the principal officers of the council, including furnishing of the office complex.

Barrister Ukwuoma also said that his administration embarked on the construction of 8 storey market building that had a total of 600 shops at Eketa market, adding that the market was in near completion.

He disclosed that over 100 youths have been trained in computer appreciation and application as part of its ICT integration programme in the area, adding that the council has procured computers, printers and generators for all the trainees as a starter pack, as well as provided electricity to the council.

The council boss appealed to the people of the area to remain responsible and appreciate the good gestures of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi led administration in the area adding that the governor has done much for the people of the area.
