LG Boss Lists Gains Of NYSC
The Chairman of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Council, Hon. Maclean Bethel Uranta, has re-echoed the gains of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme, (NYSC), commending the Federal Government for upholding the lofty ideal despite the opposition currently faced with the posting of corps members to certain parts of the federation in the face of teething security problems bedeviling the nation.
Hon. Uranta made the call in Opobo Town during a welcome party organised by the council for Batch “B” corps members recently posted to the local government area for their service year.
The council chairman said that among other things, the scheme affords youths to see the other side of the country outside their immediate vicinity, urging the corps members to give prominence to personal security even as they adapt and adjust themselves to serve the people with open minds.
Hon. Uranta, who warned against truancy and playing of pranks, said that the council would continue to encourage corps members with monthly stipends and other forms of welfare packages to show that the council cares and feels for humanity.
The Chairman therefore called on the corps members to avail themselves of the uniqueness of the local government area that is replete with untapped natural resources and put in their best and tap as much as they can, from the area, assuring them of their security and safety in the area.
In his remarks, the Supervisor for Youths and Sports in the area, Hon. Kenneth Minimah, pleaded with the corps members to take their primary assignments seriously, saying that the hospitality of the council was in order to keep them at home in the peculiar terrain of the local government area.
Hon. Minimah warned that absenteeism of corps members from place of primary assignment will not only cost such a recalcitrant his/her monthly allowance but may lead to extension of service year, advising them to always resort to constituted authorities before embarking on any journey.
