The Head Coach of the Falconets, Edwin Okon,  has reiterated the team’s desire to win the 2012 Japan U-20 Women’s World Cup, as they fine-tune their preparations for the tournament.

Okon spoke with newsmen, in Abuja, yesterday after a training session with the team.

The coach said that his optimism was based on the amount of work the girls had put into their preparations for the biennial cadet football fiesta.

“Everything is in order and the players are responding to training; we’re working hard, we’ll crown everything with prayers,’’ he said.

Our correspondent  reports that the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will hold from August 19 to September 8 in several cities across Japan.

In the Falconets’ Group B are Brazil, South Korea and Italy.

Okon stressed that in spite of the pedigree of the teams in group, the Falconets were not in any way intimidated.

“They are just like other countries that we’ve previously played; Congo and Zimbabwe are equally tough countries to contend with.

“There’s no country that’s a pushover so we take each match as it comes,’’ Okon said.

The coach also said that the team had had no cause to complain about the conditions in the camp, which he described as conducive.

He said that the number of players in the team had dropped to 30 with five dropped on Sunday.

Okon urged Nigerians to pray for the team.

The Falconets qualified for the U-20 World Cup after defeating DR Congo 7-0 and Zimbabwe 6-0 in the African qualifying series.

The team resumed training in Abuja on July 2.
