The governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 14 election in Edo State, retired Maj. Gen. Charles Airhiavbere said last Tuesday he would make agriculture his priority if elected.

Airhiavbere who made this known when his campaign team moved to Agbede in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, said he would restore the state to its glory in agriculture.

He identified unemployment as a major cause of the alarming rate of criminality in the state, saying that if given the mandate, his government would tackle unemployment head-long.

The PDP candidate who observed the dearth of industries in the state, pledged to revamp all ailing industries to create employment.

He said the abandoned state-owned Agbede/Warreke Farms, located at Etsako West and Owan East Local Government Areas of the state would be revamped to boost food production.

“Edo State is practically without industry, those established years ago have been allowed to rot away by successive administrations in the state”, he observed.

“Governance is all about the people, the youth who will take charge of the affairs tomorrow should be considered in decision-making and other activities that affect them positively.

“By not doing so could lead them into all sorts of criminality”, he said.
