Customs Siezes N15m Poultry Products

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a Seizure of over 2,590 cantons of assorted poultry products.

The items which has a duty paid value of over N15 million were Siezed by men and officers of the federal operations Unit FOU, Zone A Ikeja Lagos.

The Seizures which comes on the heels of an earlier Seizure and destruction of similar products was made public by customs Area Controller, CAC, FOU Ikeja Lagos Mr. Dan Ugo while conducting newsmen and representatives of the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control  (NAFDAC) round the destruction side located in the workshop area of the command.

He said the method the NCS uses now was “intelligence based” and has provided a platform for successful operations in recent times.

He said local farmers heeded to be protected to enable them create jobs to counter the negative effects of those he described as “unpatriotic persons” who have taken smuggling as a means of Livelihood.

He further stressed the unit’s determination to enforce full compliance with the headquaters’ directive on zero tolerance for the importation of poultry products into the country.

“Our mandate is clear and our operational readiness to frontally confront this hydra headed monster is total” he emphasised.

He commended the controller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi and NCS management team for their unallowed support and encouragement in the provision of what he called on “enabling environment” which underscored the unit’s achievements in recent times.

He assured the public of the units sustenance of the tempo and enjoined importers to venture into other legal businesses to avoid in curing more financial losses.
