Court Orders Prison Officials To Produce Suspect
An Enugu High Court Judge, Justice Chiene Nwobodo, has ordered the Enugu Prisons to produce one Anayo Ugwu involved in a case of arson.
Mrs Esther Ani, counsel for the state, applied for the production warrant.
The accused was alleged to have on May 19, 2010 at Amofia Affa in Udi, Enugu State, set fire to the shop of one Georgina Onyiwa, causing damages estimated at N1 million. The case was adjourned till July 3 for plea.
The court also adjourned a case of armed robbery preferred against two suspects till July 25 for definite hearing. The suspects are Emeka Samuel and Onyebuchi Ugwu.
Mr Isaac Ojepa, counsel for the two accused persons, asked the court to resume the hearing while Mr J.N. Nwoye, for the state, said the matter had been transferred to a new lawyer.
Mrs Esther Ani, who now handles the case, asked for a short adjournment to enable her to call her witnesses.
The accused persons were alleged to have on January10, 2007 at Ceanips filling station, Abakaliki Road, Enugu, robbed one Emmanuel Otache of the sum of N90,000, property of the filling station, while armed with guns.
