Contractor Faces Fraud, Theft Charges
Thirty-four-year-old Nasiru Ajao, who allegedly defrauded a man by obtaining some money under false pretence, was last Tuesday, in Lagos, charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at 11, Anuoluwapo St., Bamako Estate in the Ojodu Berger area of the metropolis, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp. Philip Ugbodu, told the court that the accused had sometime in April at about noon at a restaurant on old Yaba Road defrauded one Mr Mohammed Sanni.
According to him, the accused obtained N150,000 as part payment from Sanni under the pretext of building a cold room for him.
“The accused collected the money and failed to construct the cold room or refund the money,’’Ugbodu said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate T.O. Tanimola granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case to July 11 for mention.
