Chukwuemeka Sure Of Medal In London
The country’s Shot Put thrower for the London 2012 Olympics, Vivian Chukwuemeka, says she is 100 per cent confident of performing well at the championship which begins on July 27.
Chukwuemeka told newsmen in Lagos that she believed in her ability and had never been this confident in her career.
She noted that the Olympics would be tough but that she was hopeful about her chances of picking up a medal for the country.
Chukwuemeka said she was 100 per cent sure of her abulity to win medal in the Short Put event at the London Games.
“I have never been so assured in my career actually, well you know because of the things that I’m doing in training right now.
“Basically, I just have to say that it’s going to be difficult actually because there are a lot of throwers out there, I mean good quality throwers who have been throwing for a while you know.
“So they’re really solid but you know I’ve just got to be calm that’s all because I’m doing well right now and I’m training, I’m on focus, I just have to build up day by day.”
Chukwuemeka added that though she had been out of the scene for a while, she was positive she would give other contenders a good challenge.
“I’m very strong and I’m learning new things in training and so I’m really excited, so, I don’t need strength I just need the technique.
“So, I think I’m going to listen to my coach and go day by day like I said, so I don’t really have any challenge because right now I’m beginning to understand how it goes.
“So it’s really good, I’m excited, you know, I can’t even wait to go to training tomorrow. So you know hopefully, when we get there, when I get there, I’ll remain calm as I am right now because I haven’t competed for three years so I think that’s the only time I’m going to have.
“I did have that challenge when I was trying to throw again in January but it was so difficult because I didn’t know what I was doing, you know, because I had not been in the scene for a while but now I am not going to miss this.”
Chukwuemeka added that what she needed at the moment was the prayer, guidance and criticisms of Nigerians to keep her going.
She is the only shot put athlete representing the country at the London Olympic Games which will end on August12.
