…Charges Sports Council On Talents Hunt

Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has charged the State Sports Council to evolve ways of organising sporting activities, in order to discover and harness abundant talents in the state.

Amaechi gave the charge while receiving the final report of the “Garden City Games 2011 presented by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chaired by Engr Tele Ikuru on Monday in Port Harcourt.

The governor stressed the need for the Director of Sports in the council, Sir Daobu Harry to utilise the various sporting facilities and engage the youths properly.

His words, “we need to see on our table how to train our boys. A lot of facilities are now at your disposal.”

He also disclosed plans to revamp the playing grounds at Afikpo Street, Mile I, Diobu and the one at D-Line, and a boxing arena at the basket ball field in town axis of Port Harcourt.

Adding, “If we do all these we will be creating employment and encouraging our budding talents.”

As part of measures to encourage talent hunt competitions in the state, the Governor hinted that various prices will be instituted ranging from N10 million to N3 million.

“You can never tell, you may discover athletes that will be playing at the national team,” he stressed.
