Board Cautions Health Workers Against Lateness, Absenteeism
The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, has warned doctors and other health workers in the government’s health centres against absenteeism and lateness to duty as such acts without cogent reasons could result to termination of appointment .
The chairman of the board, Dr Urel Etawo who gave the warning on Monday at the opening ceremony of doctors training programme on Primary health care delivery organization by the health management board in Port Harcourt, identified absenteeism and lateness by doctors and health workers was the major challenges confronting the primary health care delivery.
According to him, many doctors were reluctantly reporting to their areas of assignments, despite the state government’s provision of equipment, accommodation and offices for doctors and others health workers in the state.
Dr Etawo said, doctors’ dereliction to work was also hindering primary health care system introduced to save life in the rural areas, and tasked the doctors and health workers to respect their calling to save lives.
He also tasked the doctors to make good use of the workshop opportunity to pepcored themselves for the service they were paying for.
Also speaking, the secretary of the board, Dr Uaribel Abam warned health workers against selective registration of free medical care.
